Incunabula

Printed texts from before 1501

The neo-Latin word incunabula (singular: incunabulum) figuratively means "infancy" and refers to the earliest works printed from movable type in Europe. They're also known in English as incunables. The Folger uses "the 15th century" (as opposed to "the 1400s") as the date range, same as the Material Evidence in Incunabula database.

Select "Vault" in the item location facet (on narrow screens select "Options" first) to remove records for electronic and microfilm facsimiles from the results.
