Folger-specific note
In Folger copy 2, [superscript pi]A1 is extended and the outer margin patched; [superscript pi]A2 (title leaf) is mounted and the outer corners are patched at their extremity. The upper outer corner of *4 is mutilated. Leaves 3d2.3 are short and extended; the outer margin of 3d4 is patched, affecting a rule on the recto (reproduced in facsim.).
Port. (on title page) in state 3.
Imperfections affect text slightly on 3c6 and very slightly on C4, N4, h2, l4, u4, 2k6, and 3a4.
Manuscript additions include inscription "Mr P... at ... the mercer", dimmed by bleaching, and other writing dimmed to illegibility by bleaching ([superscript pi]A1 recto); inscription "Letheringham in Suffolk", dimmed by bleaching (3d4 verso); and old shelfmark "C.6" (front free endpaper verso).
Identified in the 1890 folio catalogue of the Warwick Castle Library Shakespeare Collection (Folger MS M.b. 31) as the Thomas Jolley copy, inferring from a note in the book (front free endpaper verso) of the price achieved by that copy at Sotheby's, June 11 [i.e., 12], 1844 (lot 577), but the Jolley copy is not this copy.
Bookplate of Richard Clark, Newport, Isle of Wight.
