Folger-specific note
For Folger copy 13, the issue is indeterminate, as formulated by William B. Todd, "Issues and states of the Second Folio and Milton's epitaph on Shakespeare," Studies in bibliography, v. 5 (1952-53), p. 81-108. Wants both [superscript pi]A2 (title leaf) and [superscript pi]A5 ("Effigies" leaf).
Wants also all other prelims., [superscript pi]A1,3,4,6 and *⁴.
Wants port. (on title page).
Fronted by a nonce manuscript title page Also wanting are: Temp., Two Gent., Merry Wives, M. for M., and Errors entirely (A1-I2); K3,4; u4; 2f3.4; all but the first page of Antony (2y5-3a6); and all of Cymb. (3b1-3d4, including the colophon).
The Comedies present are misbound at the end of the book. The binder has prefixed a blank bifolium to the first page of most of the plays (the exceptions being John, with which the book begins, and Hen. VIII).
Imperfections affect text on a2, s3.4, and 2g2, slightly on d5, h1, and 2q6, and very slightly on 2B3, b5, c5, d3, and 2e2. (Lower outer corners, I3-K6 and 2t6-2y2, are damaged without affecting text.) Leaf 2y4 is backed, masking the first page of Antony on the verso.
Manuscript additions include notes (18th-cent.) identifying the edition of the book, signed "Chedworth"; note (18th-cent.) about the provenance and edition of the book, signed "Clara Reeve 1773"; and signatures of two William Reeves (17th- and 18th-cent.)
Bookplate of Samuel Reeve. Reeve family copy.
Wants also all other prelims., [superscript pi]A1,3,4,6 and *⁴.
