Folger-specific note
Folger copy lacks leaves e4-e5, and first and last leaves (blank); a few worm holes in first and last gatherings, slightly affecting text; outer margin of leaves q2 and q3 partially torn, affecting manuscript notes.
Initials on leaves [2], Ir, IIIv, and VIr, crudely handpainted at a later period.
Early manuscript notes in red and brown ink in several hands, some of them defaced by rubbing or partial washing of leaves, superseded by other early and extensive notes of commentary; addition of interlineary gloss in parts of Georgica and Aeneids; underlining, manicules and a few corrections in text; other notes, in a later hand, refer to classics and to Pierre Petit's works in 6th book of Aeneids.
Monogrammed letters "C T[or F?] L" gold tooled on both covers; armorial bookplate "Thomas Anson Esq. Shugborough"; purchased in 1927 according to Mrs. Folger's files.
In a later half leather binding with paste paper sides; edges stained red.
