Folger-specific note
Folger copy lacks leaf A1 in last gathering A, and leaves C7 and C8 (the last blank) in last gathering C; like in British Museum copies, gathering F of the 2nd section, the De vera sapientia, has been bound following the order of contents, after the Secretum; edges trimmed, affecting a few manuscript notes.
Some manuscript notes, underlining, and manicules pencilled in parts of the book; manuscript verse in brown ink on title page of the "De remediis utriusque fortunae" in praise of the work; other early notes (mostly scribbles) and list of names, including "Thomas Browne, Izabell Bywater, William Bramhame" (leaf B6v in last gathering B), and "Nathaniell Lemynge" (leaf h1v) in Richard Garforth's handwriting.
Inscription on leaf E7v "Richarde Garforthe is my name and"; autographs on title page "Matthew Wilson" and "Tho: Wilkinsen"; small spade shield booklabel at head of front pastedown bearing inscription "M12"
In a seventeenth century calf binding; evidence of finding tabs on title page of a few works.
Purchased in 1954.
