Folger-specific note
Folger copy lacks first 2 gatherings (index) at beginning (title from BM 15th cent. description); edges have been cropped, affecting early manuscript signatures and numbering of leaves, and inscription on 1st blank leaf.
Early inscription on 1st blank leaf "Sũma Galensis [...?]"; leaves [14] to [188] numbered by hand 1-175 and leaves [21]-[188] signed [b]1-[y]8; early manuscript finding notes in brown ink in 1st pt. of the work and a set of notes about marriage on front free endpaper, in a different hand from inscription on 1st leaf.
Bookplate of George Dunn with his initials and date "Dec. 1897" pencilled on front pastedown (no. 3343 in the Sotheby sale catalog of his library, Nov. 1917); bookplate of W.T. Smedley; purchased in 1924.
Original quarter pigskin binding on wooden boards, blind tooled with floral and crisscrossing motif rolls; evidence of 2 clasps catching on back cover; inscription "Sũma Galeñ" on lower edge, repeated on fore-edge; paper spine label handwritten in red and brown: "Galensis Summa Collationum Com̃uniloquiũ j28j".
