Manuscript finding notes in brown ink throughout the book, affected by washing, trimming of edges and earlier repairs of fore-edge; 3 damaged leaves in prefatory pt. have been replaced with those of an imperfect copy in May 1790, according to manuscript note on verso of front free endpaper. Later red leather binding, gold tooled, with the arms of Michael Wodhull on front cover; printed floral paper as endpapers. Autograph of Michael Wodhull (no. 1212 in the Sotheby sale catalog of his library, Jan. 1886) on front flyleaf, with his date "Mar. 8th 1790", his provenance "Pinelli Appendix" (no. 1900 in the Appendix to the Pinelli sale catalog, March 1790), his bibliographical notes and prices, and his date at the end of the book "Sept. 12th 1790"; bookplate of Charles Butler (no. 512 in the sale catalog of his library, Apr. 1911), and of W.T. Smedley; purchased in 1924.
