ESTC staff note
First line of verse: "Come cheer up, my lads, to Down Patrick let's steer,". A MS. note in the Bodleian Library tract volume, 13 Theta 6, in which are similar songs, suggests the author is George Villiers; at least three George Villiers are known to have lived between 1785 an 1790, the period during which all the songs in the tract volume were composed by the same poet.
