Note
This record was provided by a vendor. It may contain incorrect or incomplete information.
Titlepage in red and black.
This edition is without the half-title with the directions to the binder on verso, and 'The bookseller to the reader'. It also lacks letter LXXXIX, from the Earl of Orrery to Pope.
Letter LXXXVIII is printed on two pages, ending on p.171.
The factotums, head-pieces, and ornaments are different in places from the large paper edition, as on p.312, where there is a basket of flowers, instead of the Mercury, signed "W. Kent inv" in the large paper edition.
The 'Tracts of Martinus Scriblerus' are without a titlepage or bookseller's advertisement to the reader.
Of the 'Guardians', the first one in the large paper edition, dated "Monday, April 27, 1713" is not included.
The titlepage and following leaf have horizontal chain lines.
Probably a preliminary state of the final edition.
Reproduction of original from British Library.
