Extensive early manuscript notes in brown ink, in several hands, with underlining, manicules, drawings, and brackets (some figurative); manuscript correction of numbering of book on recto of leaf 30 and of typos in text; unevenly printed letters have also been filled in by hand. Inscription on title page (previously covered with a slip of paper), reads "Ioañis a[]berthonij, et Amico[rum] [con]stitit [...?]". In a quarter alum tawed pigskin cover with sheep suede sides; repaired; inscription on fore-edge "Arist. De Animalibus", reading from head to tail. Bookplate of Charles Butler (no. 79 in the Sotheby sale catalog of his library, April 1911) and of W.T. Smedley; purchased in 1924.
