"The four masters" are Michael O'Clery (chief annalist and general supervisor), Fearfeasa O'Maelchonaire, Conary O'Clery and Cucoigeriche O'Clery. They were aided also by C. O'Duibhgennian and M. O'Maelchonaire. Their work is sometimes called the Annals of Donegal from the name of the Franciscan monastery in which it was compiled.--cf. Dict. nat. biog., and E.
