Note
Pegasus device of C. Wechel appears on title page and verso of p. 279. Issued also the same year with Wechel's name in imprint.
Signatures: a⁴, A-Y⁶, Z⁸.
Illustrations comprise 120 different woodcuts, of which 3 are half-page cuts; the full-page woodcut of a lansquenet appears twice, and instead of the woodcut which should appear on I6r (p. 107) there appears a repetition of the woodcut which appears on I5v. The illustrations were previously used by Wechel in 1532 and other editions; these woodcuts were probably copied from those in the 1529 ed. printed at Augsburg by H. Steiner. Cf. Murray, C.F. French books, 563; Murray, C.F. German books, 420; Mortimer, R. French 16th cent., 486-488.
The so-called "Modesti libellus De vocabulis rei militaris" is a forgery by Pomponius Laetus or one of his pupils, based upon Vegetius.
Includes indexes.
