Head-and-shoulders portraits of popes within triple-line borders cut on the side grain of prepared printing blocks. Used in for at least two editions of Alfonso Chacón, Vitae et res gestae pontificum Romanorum et S. R. E. Cardinalium printed in Rome, namely "Typis Vaticanus" [The Vatican press] 1630 and "Philippi et Ant. De Rubeis" [Filippo and Antonio De Rossi] 1677.

Woodcut illustrations are one column wide. They occupy a single column in the 1630 edition of Chacón's text but most are centered over two columns in the 1677 edition. Four blocks (Vigilius, Donus, Stephen VI, and Honorius II) are at the Harry Ransom Center, Texas, and five blocks (Marcellus I, Eusebius, John I, John V, and John VI) are in Roger Gaskell’s teaching collection.
