From dealer's description: "[Hand-Coloured Engraving Of James Prescott Warde As Richmond]. Dublin: J. Lodge, 14. Stephen St., [c.183-?]. Single sheet, plate size 20 x 11cm, hand-coloured engraving entitled “Mr. Warde As Richmond,” with “No.2” at head. Warde, an interesting character originally from the West country of England, made his debut in 1818 at the Haymarket in London. He acted alongside the main actors of the day such as Edmund Kean & Charles Kemble and took various major roles as Othello, Richard III and King John over his career and here as the Duke of Richmond. After debut he worked at the Covent Garden Corps, remaining there until 1833 until the insolvency of the establishment. Hampered by debt brought on by insecure employment, he was often the subject of arrest. A very good copy (light creasing). Not located in the online union catalogues. [Ref: 2348]."
