The authorship of this work has generally been attributed to Sir Francis Walsingham, but the original was a French work by Eustache Du Refuge and was first published anonymously in Paris in 1617. Cf. Annotation on Thomason copy: "Nou: 9 1654"; the second 5 in the imprint date has been crossed out.
