Authorship of the Eikon basilike was originally attributed to Charles I, but according to Madan (pp. 125-33) it was written by John Gauden who probably included some authentic writings of the king.

Place of publication from Wing; printer's name from Madan; year of publication given according to Lady Day dating.
Has folded engraved illustration preceding title page; identified as Madan frontispiece 14 (cf. Madan p. 179).
Signatures: A⁶ B-M¹² N⁴.
First and last leaves blank and rarely present; A6 known to exist in only two copies (cf. Madan).
Slight variations in setting among the three copies filmed; all identifed as Madan 4, Wing E278.
