Two notes (in different hands) on paper mounted to back of frame: "From the late Duke of Devonshires Gallery at Chiswick, a Pencil drawing of Shakespeare by Flaxman, the wood very [illegible] Cameos are Flaxman's first proof [illegible] Wedgwood Cameos" and "This drawing of Shakespeare by Flaxman passed into the hands of a private Gentleman, at whose death it was purchased for the Baroness Burdett Coutts in 1872."
Paper sticker mounted to back with ink-stamped number "39672".
Black-on-gold labels affixed to frame: at top "Shakespeare, from Roublliac's Statue", at bottom "(449) Flaxman". Large black number "448" in ink on wooden backing.
