From dealer's description: "Manuscript recipe book in English on paper, written in multiple cursive hands in ink. Over 145 leaves, roughly one third blank. 198x161 mm, 18th-century vellum boards, worn, spine darkened, front joint cracked, cords intact; marginal dampstaining and foxing, scattered ink blots, few leaves loose, several recipes deleted. Inscription of Judith Hodgson dated 1807 on front pastedown. Great Britain, 18th-early 19th century. Around 400 recipes for meats, poultry, fish and seafood, vegetables, puddings, desserts, baked goods, sauces, preserves, syrups, and beverages, plus scattered miscellaneous remedies, all in no particular order. At the end is a table of contents written partly upside-down, which calls for 3 leaves of medical recipes now missing." Ordered from Swann Galleries, Inc.
