Folger-specific note
From dealer's description: "James Orchard Halliwell [ from 1872 James Orchard Halliwell-Phillipps ] (1820-1889), Shakespearian scholar and antiquary [ James Orchard Halliwell-Phillipps (as James Orchard Halliwell), Shakespearian scholar. ] Autograph Letter Signed ('J. O. Halliwell'), thanking a bookseller for the sight of collections of 'Shaksperes' and 'Chapbooks'. Avenue Lodge, Brixton Hill. December 1848. 1p., 12mo. In good condition, lightly aged. The recipient is a bookseller, and he thanks him 'for the sight' of the 'Shaksperes', but finds that they 'contain as I expected so many duplicates of what I have that they would be of little use to me'. He is returning them along with the 'Chapbooks', which are 'very cheap', but he has 'likewise duplicates of them in a large collection I bought recently from Newcastle'. Written on the reverse of part of a letter from a Bristol bookseller ('In reply to your order for 445 Winter I beg to inform you that it is sold') who may also be the recipient." Ordered from: Richard Ford, D9126, 2017-09-01, email quote. Purchase made possible by The Gladys Brooks Acquisitions Endowment Fund.
