Scope and content
Concerns preparations for the shipping of a large cargo of wheat to Livorno. De Buas discusses his management of negotiations with a difficult English captain and requests that Corsini advise him on what to do with the English seaman in his employment, suggesting that it might be wise to get rid of the sailors as soon as the ship arrives at port, and that to cut costs it might be best to stop at Genoa. He also offers some details concerning the differing temperaments of Flemish and English seamen, noting that the Flemish must be treated gently. Reference is made to sailors who have deserted due to problems with their wives, and others hired at Falmouth, some good sailors having been supplied by the Plymouth merchant James Bagg (d. 1624), one of Corsini's business partners.
