Folger manuscript may be incomplete, or a shorter version of the song, for the only other MS of it listed in the Union First Line Index (British Library MS Add. 78233, f. 34) ends 'Nisi bibat ad ostia stando,' a line which does not appear here.

It celebrates sack above 'all the juice the Gods produce,' as 'the wyne wch in former tyme / each wyse man of the Magi / were wont to take use.' For this superior beverage 'we abandon Ale and beare that's stale / Rosa solis and damnable hunnie,' since 'tis sure our soules by the lowsie bowles / of beare that doth nought but swill us / doe goe into swyne like Pythagorases Wyne.' Sack, on the other hand, 'how it cherrishes the brayne, how it warmeth the vayne / how against all crosses it armes us / how it makes him thats poore corragiouslie roare.'
