Summary
Medical and chemical commonplace book and diary, containing notes on materia medica and medicine with particular emphasis on diseases associated with childbirth. Includes extracts from Nicholas Culpeper, Jean Riolan's Encheiridium anatomicum, et pathologicum, Conrad Gessner, Athanasius Kircher, Ulisse Aldrovandi, Johann Rudoph Glauber, Santorio's De statica medicina, and George Ent's Apologia pro ciculatione sanguinis. Also includes many stories of practitioners in Oxford, especially William Conyers, Thomas Willis, Richard Lower, Edmund Dickinson, Stephen Toone, and Francis Smith, and accounts of autopsies and animal vivisections. Much on "Dr. Moddesey" (Robert Morison), Jacob Bobart, and the Oxford Botanical Garden. Also refers to Bushel, Lord Bacon's man.

One of several volumes, originally 17 in number, known as "Ward's Diary." 16 of these volumes are now Folger MS V.a.284-299.
This volume was kept at Oxford starting in the autumn of 1658 and completed at Mr. Stephen Toone's shop, December 17, 1660.
The latter part of the volume (fol. 68r-94v) is smudged, making interpretations sometimes difficult.
