A parody on Pope's essay on man.
The present ed. is in a different setting of type than the one with the same imprint in the Library of Congress. It was probably not printed in 1788 but at a later time.
For a discussion of the authorship of the original work see N. & Q. 11th ser. IX (Feb. 14, 1914), 121-123 and following issues, where it is maintained that Wilkes was the author. Authorship also attributed to Thomas Potter. Cf. also J. Wilkes, An essay on woman (London 1871) and H.W. Bleackley, Life of Wilkes (1917).
