Description
The title is written within an oval held aloft by putti. The first leaf contains a full-page watercolor illustrating a hand holding a quill pen with the legend "if you would win a pen of gold you must learn first the pen to hold." The various types of handwriting are shown on different pages, written as morally uplifting phrases, prayers and aphorisms. Many of the pages are framed by borders of calligraphic penwork incorporating fish, birds and human faces.
