Autograph copy of part of an ongoing theological war of words between the New England Puritan clergyman Nathaniel Ward and the Roman Catholic missionary Simon Stock (a.k.a. Thomas Doughty). This copy presumably sent to Edward Dering who had printed his own attack on Stock/Doughty in the form of "The fower cardinall-vertues of a Carmelite-fryer... London: 1641."

Estimated date based on Ward's references to having sent Stock a book around the time of "the Scots coming to Newcastle" (August, 1640) and references to Dering's recently published work.
