According to Yvonne Romney Dixon, George Romney's earliest sketches of the Banquet scene in Macbeth date to 1786 and he revisited the theme in 1792 in preparation for a never-executed painting for the Boydell Gallery ("Designs from fancy" : George Romney's Shakespearean drawings / by Yvonne Romney Dixon. Washington, D.C. : Folger Shakespeare Library, 1998, p. 186).
Other Romney drawings of the Banquet scene in Macbeth at the Folger Shakespeare Library (several sketches in ART Vol. c59, ART Vol. c60, and ART Vol. b6), the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge (L.D. 123, 124, 126 and B.V. 138-40), Yale University (1979.12.203, 1979.12.207, 1979.12.210, 1979.12.212, B1991.8.45), Princeton University (1948.1560, 1565, and 1570).
