Armorial bookplate (with motto: Ad extremum tenax): William Charles Macready. In manuscript: This edition of Shakespeare's plays formerly belonged to W.C. Macready (1793-1873) the celebrated English tragedian, and was purchased by me at the sale of his library by Mess. Christie Mana[n?] of E. King St., St. James', shortly after his death, 27 April 1873. It was stated to have been a presentation copy from the edition author, Mr. Staunton, to Macready, Geo. Tawse, 8 July 1873. Half bound in leather, with cloth-covered boards. In v.1, a portrait of Macready pasted in, and a playbill tipped in and folded.
