Dickens repeatedly requests of Fitzgerald "Don't hate me more than you can help" and comments on his reading of the Sixpenny Shakespeare: "I don't think the joke is worth the great ingenuity expended on it, and I don't think the public would take it. 'Wills and Will making' is most excellent."
