Provenance: Item is enclosed in an extra-illustrated copy of B.W. Procter's Life of Edmund Kean, published by Moxon, London, 1835. The extra-illustrated copy has expanded the 2 volume printed edition to 4 volumes and has the date 1835 on its binding. An autographed note from Procter to Horatio Saker found in the 1st volume implies that Saker was the grangerizer of the copy. Saker was an actor at the Princess's Theatre at the time the copy was extra-illustrated, probably 1859 (date on letter from Procter).
Subject: Edmund Kean was taken to Wreckin Tavern after his collapse on stage during the performance of Othello. He remained ill there for a week before he was removed to Richmond, where he died in the same year, 1833.
