Note
Artist: Artist is probably the same as that of three other works found in the same set of volumes. The other drawings are also entered under Anonymous with the titles "The Nuns ..." and "Blind Willie ..." All of these drawings measure the same size, are executed directly onto the tipped in sheet and are similar in style of execution. The artist is not identified and the work is probably that of an amateur.
Provenance: Item has been added to an extra-illustrated copy of Mackenzie's Newcastle-upon-Tyne. For volume and provenance information see entry under "Anonymous. Newcastle eccentrics."
Subject: Drawing pictures a militiaman standing, half profile to right, holding a rifle. The rifle is raised and aimed off right.
This record contains unverified data from old cards and may contain incorrect or incomplete text. Please consult Curator for assistance.
Title taken from ink label beneath drawing which has been executed directly onto the sheet of paper tipped into the volume. An ink border has been drawn around the picture and the measurement is taken from that border rather than the whole sheet of paper. Item is unsigned.
