History: Portraits of Delaval are listed in the B.M. cat of eng. Brit. ports. by J. Reynolds and C.S. Blake but neither description matches this drawing. Title from label underneath, unsigned.

Provenance: Item is found in the 5th volume of an extra-illustrated copy of Fitzgerald's Life of David Garrick, opposite p. 267. The volumes were extra-illustrated in 1903 by Alexander Meyrick Broadley, expanded from 2 volumes to 17, and bear his bookplate. The set was purchased by the Folgers from Albert Myers & Co. (cat. no. 236, item no. 117) in 1923.
