Note
History: The style of the handwriting suggests that the work was written in the earlier part of the 18th century at the latest. The watermark on the paper is similar to a mark in Heawood dated 1663. The mark is of the Amsterdam coat of arms and was used from the 1650's to the 1730's. The initials I or J B are found on this watermark and the watermark reproduced in Heawood, no. 395.
Provenance: Genealogy was either cut up or done on separate sheets of paper, for it now appears on 5 separate sheets in 5 separate volumes. Two of the sheets have been inlaid and the other three are cut to match the size of the volume and have been tipped in. Items are housed in the volume which contains the play concerning the king the item is describing. The volumes are nos. 11, 12, 13, 19, and 20 of an extra illustrated copy of the Works of William Shakespeare, 1881 edition, edited by Staunton. Subject: Crests and genealogy are given for Henry IV, V, and VI and Richard II and III. The volumes for John and Henry VIII do not include genealogies.
The crests are painted in red, blue, gold, brown, and black. The blurbs underneath the crests are written in Dutch, in brown ink and are translated in English to the right.
