History: Have been unable to find an engraving of the drawing in the Folger collection.
Provenance: Item is inlaid after p. 392 of the printed text in volume 9 of a 21 volume extra illustrated copy of the 1857 edition of Shakespeare's Works, edited by Dyce and formerly owned by Robert Hoe. For complete provenance information see entry for "Harding, Silvester. Dr. Farmer."
Small, round drawing, well executed, fairly dark colors. Unsigned.
Subject: Drawing depicts Falstaff giving his account of the affair of Gadshill to Prince Hal. Falstaff is seated to left and Prince Hal is standing before him. Two other characters are delineated in the background. The scene shown is from act II, sc. 4 of King Henry IV, pt. 1.
