Artist: Initials have not been identified and work was probably executed by an amateur.
History: Portrait is similar to a pen and ink conception of Blind Willie found on the page following the watercolor.
Provenance: Item has been added to an extra-illustrated copy of Mackenzie's Newcastle-upon-Tyne. For volume and provenance information see main entry under 'Anonymous. Newcastle eccentrics'.
Subject: Blind Willie was 'a homely minstrel, who has wandered uncovered through the streets [of Newcastle] time out of mind' (Mackenzie ... 1827 p.581). He was painted in a group portrait, along with other Newcastle eccentrics, by Henry Perlee Parker, the portrait consequently being engraved (see entry for 'Anonymous, Newcastle Eccentrics'). Willie is pictured here, standing face front, playing the violin. Extra illustration: Mackenzie, Eneas. A descriptive account of Newcastle ... 1827.
