Note
Artist: Singleton was an historical painter who exhibited R.A. from 1784 to 1839. The paintings exhibited were numerous, many of them being of Shakespearean subject matter. His work was frequently engraved.
History: Drawing was engraved by Stewart and Burnt and published, London by Longman & Co in 1807. Longman published an edition of Shakespeare in 1807 however this engraving is not found in FSL copy. A copy of the engraving is present in the volume which contains the original drawing. This copy, however, lacks imprint information which has been derived from an enraving in the ART File S528k1b no.4.
Provenance: Item is housed in volume 9, before p. 475, in a 21 volume extra illustrated copy of the 1857 edition of Shakespeare's works, edited by Dyce and formerly owned by Robert Hoe. For complete provenance information see record for Harding, Silvester. Dr. Farmer.
