Note
Artist: Nash studied at the RA schools and first exhibited there in 1800. He was a member of the O.W.S. and exhibited nearly 500 works there. He is noted as an architectural draughtsman and topographical artist and was appointed architectural draughtsman to the Society of Antiquaries in 1807.
Provenance: Item is part of a collection of engravings, original drawings, newspaper clippings and ms. notes concerning the early London theaters. The collection was purchased by the Folgers from Maggs Bros., April, 1925. There is no indication in the case information as to who may have formed the collection.
Small item, showing the left hand side of a street, a row of houses and a figure in a doorway. A label pasted to backing paper below the sketch reads: 'Globe Alley 1805. Now no thoroughfare, it used to be some years ago'. Item is signed in lower left.
