Note
This record contains unverified data from old cards and may contain incorrect or incomplete text. Please consult Curator for assistance.
Sketches are on the back of a proof state etching. A note, in brown ink, by the grangerizer of the volume, has been written on the surface of the sketches. Unsigned.
Artist: Sketches are on the verso of an etching the design of which is erroneously (?) attributed to Fuesli by the grangerizer. The artist identification is taken from a note by the grangerizer and is possibly incorrect.
Subject: Three figures have been sketched on this item, the central figure being a standing woman. To the right of the woman is a small child or cherub and to the left is a reclining figure. In the top left corner is a sketch of a leg and at top right are three circles forming a spiral. The note by the grangerizer claims that the reclining figure is a sketch of Christopher Sly for an illustration to The taming of the shrew.
Provenance: Item has been added to vol.4 of an extra illustrated copy of the 1802 Boydell edition of Shakespeare's works. For information on volume and provenance see record for Duval, A. View of.
