Artist: The label underneath the silhouettes reads as follows: 'H. Parnell Esq. (son of Sir Jn Parnell formerly Chancellor of the Exchequer, Ireland) delt.' The attributed artist, Henry Parnell, was a politician and economist. The entry for him in the DNB makes no mention of a hobby concerning silhouettes.
Black cut outs have been glued directly to the page, rather than being inlaid, and have been labeled as to character, act, scene and artist by the grangerizer George C. George. Each item has aso been labeled with a quotation from The tempest.
Provenance: Silhouettes have been added to the 1st volume of an extra illustrated copy of the 1802 Boydell edition of Shakespear's Works. For information on volume and provenance see record for Duval, A. View of.
