Note
Artist: Coraboeuf is listed in Benezit as a painter and engraver. He received the Legion of Honour in 1933.
Half length portrait, to left. Drawing is signed and dated 1913. The title is taken from a pencil note on the drawing which continues 'né à Stratford (Warwick) en 1564, mort en 1616'.
Provenance: Drawing has been inlaid and tipped in as the frontispiece to a French translation of selected Shakespeare plays. For complete volume and provenance information see record for Lami, Eugene Louis. Scenes from Shakespeare plays.
Subject: The portrait of Shakespeare shows him in traditional fashion, with a high lace Elizabethan collar. It appears to be taken after a combination of Shakespeare portraits, some idealic, but does not appear to be copied after one specifically.
