Subject: Subject is assumed to be the British actor and vocalist Edwin Ransford (1805-1876). Entries for Ransford in Harv. cat. list him as a sailor, singing the song The sea, the Gipsy King, and Wolfe the robber and murderer (W.L., to r., standing legs apart, holding guns). (FSL does not have copies of the Harv. cat. ports. with which to compare this). He is noted in DNB for playing Tom Tuck in The battle of Trafalgar and Captain Lannonade in The pet of the petticoats.
