It is much larger than the other two items and is executed in dark colors with bold outlining, similar to other large works by Wright in the FSL collection (ART Box W951 no.175). The other two items are labeled in pencil on the backings to which they are attached. The brown wash drawing also has the artist's name on the verso along with a pencil note 'sloq' and a '5' in the upper right corner. The small watercolor has a penciled '31' in the lower right corner of the painting. Items measure 10 1/2 x 16 1/4 in, 8 3/8 x 6 3/16 in. and 6 1/2 x 8 in. and none are signed.
Provenance: ART Box W951 no.169 was purchased by the Folgers from P.W. Holloway, Sept., 1928 (Case 1832). Subject: The first item shows Proteus and Julia (dressed as Sebastian) fighting off the outlaws who are dressed in shepherd's clothing and are running off left. Eight outlaws are pictured. Sylvia is shown seated at right and another male figure is to the right of her (ART Box W951 no.169). The second item is labeled Act V, Sc. 4 and shows Proteus saying 'Madam This service I have done for you' to Sylvia while Julia watches on and Valentine hides behind a tree (ART Box W951 no.170). The third item is not labeled with act or scene. It shows Sylvia seated in a garden, center, flanked by Proteus and Valentine, possibly Act II, Sc. 4 (ART Box W951 no.171).
