Summary
Alexander VII is pictured being borne in a litter; his coat of arms is shown above. This image is in a central compartment which is surrounded by 10 smaller vignettes showing the public and ceremonial acts of a pope, each with Latin text below which describes the scene.
Note
The same plate, with minor alterations, was used for a 1667 print of Clement IX (see Folger ART Box R763.1 no.2). The date on the 1655 print appears to have been altered, which suggests that the plate may have been used even before this for yet another pope.
