An angered wife greets the return of her intoxicated husband with arm outstretched toward the clock, the hands of which point to 3 a.m. A cat is on the supper table and a baby is crying in the bed behind the door.

History: According to the auction catalog from which this item was purchased, the work was published in 1827 as a separate print. 1827 was also the year in which Cruikshank published his 'Illustrations on Time'. This illustration was not included in that work. Item is not listed, under the noted title, in Reid's Catalog of Cruikshank's Works.
Provenance: Drawing was purchased from the sale of the collection of the 1st Viscount Leverhulme and is listed as no.103 in the section of drawings and watercolors in the catalog of the auction held by the Anderson Galleries, Feb. 1926. Verso sketch is catalogued under Cruikshank, Sketches for an unpublished illustration.
