Summary
Fanciful portrait of Sir Richard Steele, seated at a desk, writing. On the ground by his feet are three broken swords, playing cards, dice, and a dog and cat tussling with one another. Approaching his right elbow is a boy standing on what appear to be clouds, offering him a sealed document. Shelves with books line both sides of the room, and atop one of the shelves is a large nautical instrument.
