Note
This record contains unverified data from old cards and may contain incorrect or incomplete text. Please consult Curator for assistance.
Items are all labeled in ink, signed, and sometimes dated. Several of the works have pencil markings and notations on them.
Artist: Fisher was an antiquarian draughtsman and engraver. His birthdate is sometimes noted as 1782 and he is often described as an 'amateur'. He exhibited 3 works at the RA from 1804-1807 and sketched and engraved the illustrations to 'A series of ancient allegorical, historical and legendary paintings ... on the walls of the Chapel of Trinity ... Stratford' published by the Nichols family. He contributed articles and illustrations to the Gentleman's magazine. (FSL has copies of above work and some originals).
History: Drawings are contained in a collection formerly belonging to John Bowyer Nichols, publisher of the Gentleman's magazine, and may have been engraved as illustrations for the magazine, or intended for other publishing ventures. Cataloger unable to locate a bibliographical entry that would indicate the use of these designs.
Subject: Nine of the drawings illustrate views or sections of the Templer's Church and Hall at Balshall Temple, Warwickshire. The ground plan, southwest view of the hall and church, south, north, east and west sides of the church, architectural sections of the hall, wood carvings, mouldings and sculptures are all featured in separate drawings. The other four drawings depict the following: N.E. view of the Church of Henley-Beaudesert, dated 1804; stained glass in east window of the Packwood Church; southeast view, and brass plates on a grave at Solihull Church, dated 1804.
Provenance: Items are glued into a volume which is labeled 'Warwickshire engravings and original drawings'. For complete provenance information see record for Wollas Hall, co. Warwick.
