Artist: Cueno was born in San Francisco of Italian parents, went to Paris and studied under Girardio, Prenet and Whistler then settled in London. He was a painter and illustrator who did work for several magazines and was a member R.O.I.
History: According to bookseller drawing was done for 'Black and White', April 27, 1901. Folger does not have a copy of the published magazine.
Provenance: Drawing was purchased by the Folgers through Sotheran April 21, 1901.

Folger copy is signed Cyrus C. Cuneo 1901 in right corner. In left lower corner 'Act II, Scene IV. Coriolanus. Lyceum April 15 1901'. Penciled numbers on verso. 19 1/2" x 25 1/2".
Subject: Drawing illustrates Act II, Sc. 4 of Henry Irving's production of Coriolanus at The Lyceum which opened on April 15, 1901. Henry Irving took the role of Coriolanus and Ellen Terry played Volumnia. The sets were designed by Sir Laurence Alma Tadema. Irving is portrayed in this drawing, attempting to calm the citizens who are at right with weapons. The senators are portrayed to the left, behind Coriolanus.
