Title
Copy of charter (fragment), Stratford?, Warwickshire, July 23, 1610 [manuscript], 1610?.
Description
1 leaf ; 43 x 29 cm
Associated name
Scope and content
Contemporary copy of document with memoranda of the passing of charter signed "T. Ellesmere, Canc.," and note "Examinat[?] per me Thoma[s] Marten." While this particular fragment does not explicitly name the town for which this is a charter, the date of July 23, 1610 and reference to Warwickshire strongly suggests James I's reconfirmation of municipal privileges and franchises for Stratford-upon-Avon. Includes a note signed by "J.O.H.": This leaf is from the old folio ms. I bought at the Wheler sale at Sotheby's. Marked with subject "Markets."
Language Note
Charter in Latin, marginalia in English.
Note
In the H3 envelope in the J.O. Halliwell-Phillipps Scrapboxes collection (Y.d.1119-1414).
