This account of the proceedings at Calais was originally written in Latin by Mercurino Gattinara, the Chancellor of Emperor Charles V and his representative at the conference. A contemporary translation into French by Claude de Chassey was circulated widely and several manuscript copies are still in existence.
Language Note
In French translated from the Latin.
Note
The presence of the second dedication indicates that this copy was written for the Parliament at Dole, which was then the capital of the county of Burgundy, held by the Dukes of Burgundy, as a fief of the Empire and at the time governed by Margaret of Austria.
