Summary
A collection of over 200 culinary recipes and medicinal preparations, compiled starting in 1674, with additions in multiple hands well into the 18th century (latest dated recipe: "To make Lemon Catchup. Mr. Norris 1770" (part 2, p. 121)). Contains a large number of recipes for cakes, biscuits, preserves, sausages, and wines, as well as cures for ailments such as convulsion fits, worms, and colds. Also contains a few household recipes ("To draw the Essence of all sorts of smelling fflowers, without any fire w[hi]ch is the secrett way of The Italians" (part 1, leaf 27), "To Dye Purple" (part 2, p. 38), "To Dye black" (part 2, p. 125)) and 17 pages of religious writings at the beginning of part 2, including "A sermon preached before king James at Trinity Colledge in Cambridge, vis, The Happiness of Peace vpon Psalme 144 vers. 15 ... By John Staughton, Doctor in Divinity, somtime Fellow of Emanuell Colledge in Cambridge" (part 2, p. 1-10) and The Love-sicke spouse, a sermon preached at St. Paule's Cross upon the 5th of Cant. (part 2, p. 10-13).

Historical background
Lady Anne Carr (Ker or Kerr), the writer of the bulk of the first half of the manuscript, is likely to have been a member of the Kerr family, Earls of Ancram and of Lothian.
