Notes interleaved with a copy of Gallen, 1666, A new almanack ... (Wing A1789fA), including notes on the gardens at Tixall Hall, accounts and list of books (paste-down of back cover). Also, a 1 p. letter (tipped in) in French, probably dating from the 18th century, from Arthur Clifford to his parents (written in 2 hands) probably when very young, signed: Arture Clifford.
Note
Attribution to Walter Aston, 2nd Lord Aston of Forfar, based on signed note dated 1666 which refers to his brother Herbert Aston of Cotton.
Historical background
The Aston family owned Tixall Hall, near Stafford, and was passed onto the Clifford family when Barbara Aston, the daughter of James Aston, the fifth Lord Aston of Forfar, married Thomas Clifford in 1762.
